Getting Started

No matter what stage your project is at we can see it through to completion.  Here are a few things to keep in mind while you're getting started.

  • Know what you want out of your project.  Why are you doing this project? Do you need more square footage, to update an area of your home for a new look/design, or a home to retire in? Know what the purpose of you project is so you can stay on track.

  • Know what your budget is.  What are you comfortable spending on your project?  Even before you get estimates you should know your limit.  If you don’t plan financially up front you will have a tendency to over spend on your project.  We can help you keep your budget realistic to your desires.

  • Know what you want the finished product to look like.  Pictures from magazines and the Internet are a great way to let your contractor know what you are looking for. Start a folder of things that you like or have questions about.

  • Find an architect and/or designer that you trust and work well with. A good architect and/or designer can make or break your project. Not all projects will require an architect and/or designer, but if yours does you need to trust whoever you are working with.  An architect and/or designer is just as important as the contractor you hire to build your project. Some things to consider may be: do they have references, have you seen their work, what do they charge, how many other projects are they currently working on, can they meet your budget? We can help you find an architect/designer that meets your needs.

  • What is your schedule?  Do you want your project done before your in-laws come to town in 3 months?  Setting realistic expectations for your schedule and making them clear to all parties involved in your project is important.  Make sure your contractor has a clear and concise plan so your project will stay on schedule and on budget.

These are some simple steps for you to consider during you planning process.  We are available to meet with you and help you answer any questions you may have concerning your project.
